Birmingham 2023
I last visited this vibrant city in 2018, and there were plans afoot for significant redevelopment around Paradise Circus and Broad Street. Birmingham City Council launched The Big City Plan as the most ambitious, far-reaching development project ever undertaken in the UK. The aim being to create a world-class city centre by planning for the next 20 years of transformation. Some of the key points were to create a well-connected, efficient and walkable City Centre, whilst retaining the values of the city centre’s heritage and cultural assets. A significant amount of the construction work is now complete although changes to Millennium Square are still in progress. My visit was therefore a sort of 'refresh' , and although the five hours spent walking around was tiring, I felt rewarded by seeing the changed cityscape and skyline still wonderfully complemented by some of the older iconic buildings. I travelled by train this time, so my walk took me from New Street, Grand Central station along New Street to Millennium Square including a visit to the Library, then onto Brindley place and around the canals. I then worked my way to China Town, The Mailbox and onto the Bull Ring before heading back via New Street and Great Western Arcade to Colmore Row, back to Millennium Square and the station.
I find monochrome generally works best for street photography, but I have created two sets of slideshows, the second being colour versions of some of the mono images, plus some additional colours pictures which haven't been converted. I hope you like them.
