The Wye Valley
The Wye Valley is a rural retreat with some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Britain. As well as the dramatic scenery and wonderful wildlife that come with being a protected National Landscape, it is designate an Area Of Natural Beauty. Tintern Abbey, is in the prettiest of settings surrounded by river, trees and hills. Symonds Yat is another beautiful and popular location right on the Wye and the iconic view from Yat Rock is probably one of the most photographed.
Around Bigsweir
Bigsweir Bridge is a border crossing of the River Wye between Wales (Monmouthshire) and England (Gloucestershire) on the A466 Wye Valley road between Chepstow and Monmouth. Built in 1827, it is a single-file traffic-light operated road bridge with a narrow pedestrian pathway on either side of the road. The original toll house for the bridge remains on the Welsh side, although crossing is now free. It is noted for its close proximity to the Offa's Dyke Path, which passes close to the eastern side of the bridge.
